PDF to WEBP Converter is a browser-based tool that renders each page of a PDF as a WEBP image. It uses PDF.js entirely in your browser, so your files are never uploaded to any server. WEBP is a modern image format that combines strong compression with good visual quality, making it well suited for web use where file size matters. You control both the output resolution and the quality level.
Tool interface
The interface provides the core controls you need:
- A drag-and-drop area for a single PDF file
- A resolution selector: 96 DPI (Standard), 150 DPI (Good), 200 DPI (High)
- A quality slider (1–100%) to control WEBP compression
- A file info bar showing the file name and page count after loading
- A
Convert & Downloadbutton that processes all pages - Live progress updates as each page is rendered
Single-page PDFs download as a .webp file. Multi-page PDFs are packaged into a ZIP archive with one image per page.
Tool description
PDF to WEBP Converter renders each PDF page onto an HTML canvas at the selected resolution, then exports it as a WEBP image at your chosen quality level. WEBP achieves smaller file sizes than PNG while retaining more visual detail than JPEG at equivalent compression settings — making it a practical format for web-facing use cases.
Resolution controls the output image dimensions. At 150 DPI, a standard A4 page renders at approximately 1240 × 1754 pixels. Quality controls how aggressively WEBP compression is applied — higher values preserve more detail at larger file sizes; lower values reduce size at the cost of some sharpness.
Some practical use cases:
- Preparing PDF page images in WEBP for use in a website or web application
- Reducing the size of PDF-derived images for faster web page loads
- Converting PDF slides to WEBP for use in a web-based presentation
- Creating WEBP previews of PDF documents for a content management system
- Exporting PDF pages as lightweight images for archiving or sharing
How to use
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click
Browseto select one. - Choose a resolution from the dropdown (150 DPI is a practical default).
- Adjust the quality slider (85% offers a good balance of size and clarity).
- Click
Convert & Downloadto begin rendering. - Progress updates appear as each page is processed.
- Single-page PDFs download as a
.webpfile. Multi-page PDFs are saved as a ZIP archive named after the original file.
Tip: For web use, 150 DPI at 80–85% quality produces sharp, compact WEBP images. For higher visual fidelity, raise the quality to 90% or above.
FAQ
What PDF files are accepted?
Any standard PDF, single or multi-page. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed — the tool will display a notice if a protected file is detected.
Why WEBP instead of JPEG or PNG?
WEBP offers better compression than JPEG at similar quality levels and supports transparency unlike JPEG. It is the preferred format for modern web images. If you need lossless output, use the PDF to PNG tool instead.
What is the output for a multi-page PDF?
Each page is saved as a separate WEBP file named page-1.webp, page-2.webp, and so on. All files are packaged into a ZIP archive named after the original PDF.
Does quality affect the output significantly?
Yes. Values between 80–90% produce visually sharp images with meaningful size reduction compared to lossless PNG. Values below 70% may introduce noticeable artefacts on text-heavy pages.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All rendering happens locally in your browser using PDF.js. Your PDF is never sent anywhere.
