PDF to PNG Converter is a browser-based tool that renders each page of a PDF as a lossless PNG image. It uses PDF.js — the rendering engine built into Firefox and Chrome — entirely in your browser, so your files are never uploaded to any server. PNG output is ideal when you need pixel-perfect, transparency-capable images from a PDF for editing, documentation, or presentation work.
Tool interface
The interface is focused and minimal:
- A drag-and-drop area for a single PDF file
- A resolution selector: 96 DPI (Standard), 150 DPI (Good), 200 DPI (High)
- A file info bar showing the file name and page count after loading
- A
Convert & Downloadbutton that processes all pages - Live progress updates as each page is rendered
Single-page PDFs download as a .png file. Multi-page PDFs are packaged into a ZIP archive with one image per page.
Tool description
PDF to PNG Converter renders each PDF page onto an HTML canvas at the selected resolution, then exports it as a PNG image. PNG uses lossless compression — every pixel is preserved exactly, with no compression artifacts. This makes PNG the right choice when the output will be used for further editing, used as a source in design tools, or displayed at high quality without any visual degradation.
Resolution controls the output image dimensions. At 150 DPI, a standard A4 page renders at approximately 1240 × 1754 pixels. Higher DPI produces sharper, larger files suitable for print and detailed inspection; lower DPI produces lighter files for screen display.
Some practical use cases:
- Extracting slides or diagrams from a PDF for editing in image tools
- Converting PDF pages to PNG for use in presentations or documents
- Creating high-resolution PNG previews of PDF pages for a website
- Archiving PDF content as standalone, universally compatible image files
- Preparing PDF pages for further processing in design or publishing tools
How to use
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click
Browseto select one. - Choose a resolution from the dropdown (150 DPI is a practical default).
- Click
Convert & Downloadto begin rendering. - Progress updates appear as each page is processed.
- Single-page PDFs download as a
.pngfile. Multi-page PDFs are saved as a ZIP archive named after the original file.
Tip: Use 200 DPI when the PNG will be printed, edited, or inspected closely. Use 96 DPI for lightweight screen previews.
FAQ
What PDF files are accepted?
Any standard PDF, single or multi-page. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed — the tool will display a notice if a protected file is detected.
Why PNG instead of JPEG?
PNG is lossless. Every pixel from the rendered page is preserved exactly, with no compression artifacts. Use PNG when quality and editability matter. If you need smaller files and lossless quality is not a priority, the PDF to JPG tool is an alternative.
What is the output for a multi-page PDF?
Each page is saved as a separate PNG file named page-1.png, page-2.png, and so on. All files are packaged into a ZIP archive named after the original PDF.
How does resolution affect the output?
Higher resolution produces larger, sharper images. 96 DPI suits thumbnails and screen use. 150 DPI is a good general-purpose setting. 200 DPI is better for print or close-up inspection.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All rendering happens locally in your browser using PDF.js. Your PDF is never sent anywhere.
