WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that offers excellent compression at high quality. However, not all applications, printers, or older platforms support WebP natively. This free online tool converts your WebP files to widely compatible formats — PNG, JPEG, or BMP — entirely in your browser with no file upload required.

How to Convert WebP to Image

  1. Drop one or more .webp files onto the drop zone, or click Browse to select files.
  2. Choose your output format: PNG (lossless, transparency), JPEG (smaller, no transparency), or BMP (uncompressed, maximum compatibility).
  3. If you selected JPEG, adjust the quality slider (10–100).
  4. Click Convert & Download. A single file downloads directly; multiple files are packaged into a .zip.

Output Format Guide

Format Best for Transparency File size
PNG Screenshots, graphics, logos Medium
JPEG Photos, gradients Small
BMP Legacy software, Windows apps Large

PNG is the default and the safest choice — it preserves all pixel data losslessly. Choose JPEG when you need the smallest possible file size and the image has no transparency. Use BMP only when required by older software.

WebP vs PNG vs JPEG: Which Should You Choose?

  • WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality, and support both lossy and lossless compression. However, support in older software, email clients, and printing systems remains inconsistent.
  • PNG is the universal lossless standard — every browser, image editor, and operating system can open it without issues.
  • JPEG has been the web photo standard for decades. Near-universal support in print workflows, social media uploads, and legacy apps makes it the safe choice for photos.

Transparency and JPEG

WebP supports transparency (alpha channel). When converting to JPEG or BMP — formats that have no alpha support — this tool automatically fills the transparent areas with white. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG instead.

Batch Conversion and ZIP Download

You can drop as many WebP files as you like. When you click Convert & Download, all files are converted and packaged into a single webp-converted.zip file for easy download. Individual files are downloaded directly when you convert just one file.

Privacy and Security

All processing happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are never sent to any server. No account is required, and no data is collected or stored.

FAQ

Can I convert multiple WebP files at once?

Yes. Drop multiple .webp files into the drop zone or select them with the Browse button. All files are converted and zipped automatically when you click Convert & Download.

Does converting to PNG affect image quality?

No. PNG is a lossless format. Converting from WebP lossless to PNG produces a pixel-perfect copy. Converting from WebP lossy to PNG also creates a lossless copy of the WebP's decoded pixels (no additional quality loss beyond what WebP's own lossy compression already applied).

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPEG?

Transparent areas in the WebP image are filled with white before the JPEG is created, since JPEG does not support an alpha channel. Use PNG if you need to keep transparency.

Why is my converted BMP file so large?

BMP stores uncompressed raw pixel data. A 1920×1080 WebP image converts to a 24-bit BMP of approximately 6 MB regardless of the original WebP file size. Use PNG or JPEG for much smaller file sizes.

Do I need to install anything?

No. The converter runs entirely in your browser using built-in HTML5 Canvas technology. No plugins, extensions, or software installation required.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern browser that supports the HTML5 Canvas API — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Mobile browsers are also supported.
