Wi-Fi QR Code Generator is a fast, browser-based tool that creates a scannable QR code from your Wi-Fi credentials. Guests can scan it with their phone camera to connect instantly — no typing required. Your network name and password stay in your browser and are never sent to a server.
Tool interface
Fill in three fields, then click Generate QR Code:
- Network Name (SSID) — the name of your Wi-Fi network as it appears on devices
- Security Type — WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP, or None (open network)
- Password — your Wi-Fi password (hidden by default, with a show/hide toggle)
- Hidden network — tick this if your router does not broadcast the SSID
The QR code appears instantly in the preview panel. Click Download PNG to save a high-resolution 256×256 image you can print or share.
How the QR code works
The tool encodes your credentials using the standard Wi-Fi QR format:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:MyPassword;H:false;;
Where:
T= security type (WPA, WEP, or nopass)S= SSID (network name)P= passwordH= whether the network is hidden
Any modern phone camera app (iOS 11+, Android 9+) can read this format and offer to connect automatically.
Supported security types
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 | Most home and office routers — use this by default |
| WEP | Older format, rarely used and less secure |
| None | Open network with no password |
Common use cases
- Home guests — print the QR code and frame it near the router or front door
- Airbnb / short-term rental — add to a welcome card so guests connect without asking
- Events and venues — display on a screen or print on tables so attendees can connect
- Office visitors — put the QR in a reception area or meeting room
FAQ
Is my password stored or transmitted anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser. The password is only used to build the QR string locally and is never sent to any server. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Which phones can scan Wi-Fi QR codes?
The built-in camera app on iOS 11 and later and Android 9 and later can scan Wi-Fi QR codes without installing any additional app. Older devices may need a dedicated QR scanner app that supports the WIFI: format.
What if my SSID or password contains special characters?
The tool automatically escapes special characters (backslash, semicolon, comma, double-quote, and colon) as required by the Wi-Fi QR specification, so the generated code will be valid.
What size should I print the QR code?
For reliable scanning, print the code at least 2.5 cm × 2.5 cm (1 inch × 1 inch). Larger is better — 5–10 cm works well for wall-mounted signs. The downloaded PNG is 256×256 pixels and can be upscaled without quality loss when using a vector-aware printer.
How do I update the QR code if I change my password?
Simply enter the new password and generate a new QR code, then reprint or replace the image. There is no account or sync — each generation is independent.
